I've always been fascinated by politics and, more recently, especially after our last federal election results I guess, I'm seriously considering joining a political party. There has to be one of the two most important, because it really did not appeal to me at all. I wonder if you have some suggestions of a party that agrees with most of my personal beliefs; MedlinePlus MedlinePlus * I agree that climate change is likely to occur, and that humans can be a little responsible, but I disagree with a "carbon tax" or expensive emissions trading scheme or cap and trade as a solution . I think we should look for alternative renewable energy and the protection of our oceans and forests instead. MedlinePlus * As Dick Smith (and many others) I believe in a "sustainable population" of Australia and immigration should be substantially reduced until we have water, infrastructure and possible assistance for additional people. However, there is a good spot for people living here to continue to have more children than our population is aging. MedlinePlus * I believe that asylum seekers arriving by boat in Australia should be processed offshore and humane treatment. I agree that is a signatory to the UNHCR (Refugee Convention) Australia has a responsibility to ensure that persons fleeing a war-torn country for a better life should be safe and humane treatment, even during the settlement process refugees (including off-shore solution), but we should not open our borders to people to get (and stay) in our country illegally. MedlinePlus * Although I can see some merit in the broadband plan of government, I do not think that the optical fiber to every home and business (at a cost of at least $ 43 billion) is the best plan for our communication needs and technology. Fibre is good but does not last long and will have to be replaced in 15-20 years at similar cost, and no private company is going to fund that! While I agree that we need better broadband, faster ... I do not think the NBN is the best idea. MedlinePlus * I agree with any plan to censor the Internet, and I think it is the role of parents to monitor their children's computer use to keep them safe. The government can help with optional filters at home if the parents want, but should not be mandatory. MedlinePlus * I support Australian republican model with our head of state (President) is elected by the people for the people. MedlinePlus * Support for citizens initiated referendum (CIR), which allows a section of the community to insist on a national vote on any matter with enough community support for it to be presented. MedlinePlus * I accept that we are part of an international community and we must do what we can to help others and avoid war and conflict whenever possible, but ultimately - we support Australia and our first fellow Australians. This makes me a nationalist. I'm a little concerned about movements such as the UN and their reasons for pushing an unelected world government world. We can be part of the UN, but we must not give any of our sovereignty and national identity. MedlinePlus * I do not believe that governments should sell public assets and business to make money fast. The money they earn should spend more on public infrastructure. Since the settlement Telstra have noticed that the Telstra customer service has declined considerably and still intimidate competitors out of the market. MedlinePlus * Hospitals should be paid for good results and not on the number of patients seen or operations. Medicare should cover basic dental checkups and people should be encouraged to have (and use) private health insurance - even extended to cover 100% of the private medical GP if possible, so there will be no Medicare " gap "payments. MedlinePlus * Schools and universities should not be funded on the basis of student test scores or results. Schools with the highest achievements should be no more than those with lower scores. Perhaps schools could receive an additional payment based on student attendance rather than test results. Schools should also focus more on basic English, mathematics and personal health issues (PE). MedlinePlus * Support the right of same-sex couples to marry in the same way as heterosexual couples can. A "civil union" is still not equal to a marriage. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Anyway, thanks for reading (I know it was not long) and I am looking for answers that are intelligent and impartial. Any suggestion of a political party may be able to be closely aligned with my views ... or should I start my own?!
