A friend of mine started with Etrade. I signed up but they somehow mixed my information with my fathers and wanted me to fax them all of this information that I don't have the time to do at the moment.
He also stated that etrade has a fee per trade which I don't like..

but what are a list of stock trading sites? Good ones..

Else, how else do people invest in stocks other than the internet? Would it just be through the actual stock market?

You need a broker to trade. Typically , you use the software platform for agents to initiate backup . Most also provide a web portal and mobile application for mobile phones. Calling is old school and now most of it during Internet outages only as an emergency safety net .

You will pay commission for buying and selling ... that's part of the game. There are some operators, but you get what you pay for and if you skimp is likely to get poor execution of orders .

I use Think or Swim me personally. They are wise and reasonable prices is an excellent platform in my opinion.

Besides online by yourself , a full service broker that will handle your needs over the phone much higher cost .
