I am certain they would have made the playoffs with or without him but they are hoping for him to be a solid number 3 guy in the playoffs if Buchholz is not back by then. How effective will Bedard be in this role?
I am not overly confident in Bedard he always seems to be hurt but I think it is a good move for them because they gave up prospects they would likely not use.

Let's see . Berdard is so prone to injury. When healthy is a very good lefty SP.

I do not think it will make a big difference , but it will certainly help. Since Buchholz Sox probably will not get back before the season ends , Bedard will fill that void rotation start , and can keep everyone in the bullpen . If they had not come Bedard , Aceves would probably fill in that last spot in the rotation and bullpen have much damage . Aceves need to relieve pitchers before or Paplebon Bard can intervene , especially if the starting pitcher had to be carried out early in the game . Aceves is a vital part of the bullpen , what need there, and now that the Red Sox have Bedard can stay there. I think the Red Sox have a good chance of making to October , with or without him , but he will help just by being there . His numbers are not spectacular , but I hope he will. Only time will tell though.
