How to get into advertising?

This is just my opinion ... but I work with students studying anywhere from 2-4 years in the design of publicity (not counting the first two years of college ). And even students can have a hard time developing a portfolio that makes them competitive. Do not get me wrong , Manish . Good art directors understand graphic design , too, but only as a means to an end - the communication and persuasion. And that's a skill that usually takes years to develop. Similarly, the drawing is not a skill set that I just keep in mind when interviewing potential art directors. Advertising agencies hire independent illustrators for such work .
