Better for new entrants and basic "investors."
Charles Schwab
Fidelity Investments
Ameritrade

Avoid :
Zecco
Sharebuilder
E * Trade

Not bad ... but not great :
ScottTrade

I 'm exchanging shares for the first time myself and I'm using fidelity. I chose them because my employee stock configuration is through them so it just seemed a little easier . I have seen others use tdameritrade and that the site looks good. Most online brokers will charge around $ 7/trade . Of course I have no experince lot or other sites to compare the fidelity , but I have no complaints.
